How To Get a Refund on PayPal?

There are many scenarios in which you might want a refund on your PayPal transaction. Sometimes, your transactions may not follow through properly. Or maybe you are not truly satisfied with your client’s work. In this scenario, opting for a refund on PayPal is the best option. Receiving a refund is a tricky task. There is a chance that on many other platforms, you may have to go through a lot of extensive processes before your refund transaction is completed. But that is not the case with PayPal. The process of getting a refund on PayPal is straightforward. Here is a guide of different scenarios on how to get a refund on PayPal.

Pending Payments

The process of getting a refund on a pending payment is the easiest. All you have to do is cancel the transaction process. The cancel button is found on the Activity page. From pending payments, it is implied that the receiver of the money hasn’t acknowledged or collected the amount so far. By cancelling the payment, the amount is not deducted from your account.

Completed Payments (Client Perspective)

If you have purchased something through PayPal and the payment has been executed completely, the process of refund is slightly different. You cannot cancel the payment directly. At this point, you must send an email or contact the seller so that they can send you the refund. It is important to remember that you must ask for a refund within 180 days of your purchase. If you fail to do so within the time limit, your query for refund will not be entertained under any circumstances.

If you do not have the contact for the seller, here is how you can find it:

  • Go to the Summary page and then select the transaction to be cancelled
  • Extract the information of the seller from there

Despite abiding by all the rules of the payments, if your seller does not agree to refund your money, you must open a dispute in the Resolution Center. The dispute is only valid if:

  • You didn’t receive the item.
  • Payment was not authorized.
  • Product does not match the description.

Here are a few other facts to keep in mind when demanding refunds:

  1. If you made the payment through your debit or credit card, your refund amount will be received in the account of the respective debit or credit card.

In the case that a person made a transaction internationally, then currency conversions are applied by PayPal. Here are the rules that you must keep in mind:

  1. Currency is refunded in the same currency as the one used for payment purposes.
  2. Currency exchange rate within 1 day of the original payment used will be applied.
