Arizona local Don Dirren recently discussed why Arizona is one of the best states in the country for golf.

Arizona is continuously ranked among the best states in the country for golf. Don Dirren is a resident of the state of Arizona and an avid golfer, and he recently discussed why his state is such a desirable place to travel for a round of golf (or a dozen).

“Arizona boasts many of the best golf courses in the country,” Don Dirren said. “But it’s not just the courses that attract golfers from around the globe. It’s the unique scenery, desirable weather, luxurious retirement living, and more.”

Don Dirren explained that Arizona is home to seven courses in Golf Digest’s list of top 100 courses in the world. The breathtaking surroundings, including mountain peaks, cartoonish cacti, and more, make these courses truly unique places to visit. The fact that these courses have been frequented by players like Annika Sorenstam and Phil Mickelson make them even more desirable.

Another major draw to Arizona’s golf scene is the weather. The temperate climate means harsh winter weather is extremely rare, so you can hit the links in all seasons. Arizona also boasts more days of sunshine per year than most other states, and that means more opportunities to golf. You probably won’t have to worry about the weather when booking a golf escape to Arizona, and that is a major advantage.

“A major part of why Arizona is such an exceptional state for golf doesn’t even involve the golfing,” Don Dirren said. “It’s that there are so many other things to enjoy between rounds. There are world-class dining destinations, luxurious resorts, and of course, the Grand Canyon.”

Dirren explained that while many people may head to Arizona just for a few rounds of golf, they’ll likely book a return visit to experience other activities the state has to offer.

“Head to Arizona, and you may find yourself on the course with a professional golfer or celebrity,” Dirren said. “These are people who can choose to golf anywhere they please, and they continue to choose Arizona time and time again.”

Celebrity players have been known to frequent the Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale and dine at “Phil’s Grill,” as well as other famous courses like the Sewailo Golf Club in Tucson and the Golf Club at Dove Mountain in Marana.

“The best way to find out why Arizona is one of the top golf destinations in the country is to come play a round for yourself,” Don Dirren concluded. “I almost guarantee it will be the first trip of many.”
